September 2012- Septic Digging

This week Blake and Oscar from Sudderth Brothers Construction began the digging of the Septic System.  In Georgetown a Septic System is called an On-Site Wastewater Disposal System but for simplicity let's stick with the SS.

This process began over a year ago with a SS designer, Brandon Couch who then obtained a permit to design, then a permit to build.  We will still have to get a permit to use once the SS construction is approved by the county.

The first thing to be done was to clear a road to the site for the tank.  The SS is a mound type which means out of the three-compartment tank the black water will be distributed to a field which is on top of the ground...thus a mound.  This is necessary because the ground is rock with about 18 inches of dirt/rock as top soil.

Work begins on the hole for the tank and the connecting lines coming from the house.  The white pipe that is visible is the rainwater collection system.  The challenge will be for Blake to get under the pipe without breaking it since the pipe is filled with rainwater. He could have just cut the pipe then replaced it but I think he thought it was fun to see if he could do it.

This is Oscar who obviously trusted Blake with the heavy equipment. Blake dug as much as he could with the bucket.

Notice how close he is getting to the house.

There are actually two different pipes coming out of the house..the horizontal is the black water and the vertical is the grey water.

Blake has moved back to begin the tank hole

The pile of rocks are small now

The trench is not deep enough and solid rock has been hit.

Out comes the big chisel.  Boy, is it loud.

Pile beginning to get bigger and hole deeper.  But again, solid rock has stalled the job.
Will start back at it tomorrow.
