More Pictures

Due to tremendous amount of requests for more pictures (1), here's more on the construction:

I haven't just been sitting doing nothing for the past two weeks so here's some progress we have made.  The Central Pod is shown here from the Kitchen side.  I thought it would be interesting to document how it changes.  This wall separates the Kitchen/Dining from the Great Room.  On the other side of this wall which will be faced in natural limestone will be a hearth at sitting height and a wood stove.  On the Kitchen/Dining side this area is the baking prep as well as the breakfast prep areas.  The counter goes back into a garage area for applicances.  Underneath will be large drawers for staples, pans and other cooking equipment.  On top will be a microwave oven and cabinets for spices and other staples.  Also on this wall is a commercial french door LP oven.  The counter will also be the landing area for items coming out of the oven.

This is really sparse but you can see the baffles that we put in over the Kitchen to hold in the spray insulation in the attic.  The attic will be sealed and that is why we had to block off the area over the porches front and back.  The bracing on the studs is for the cabinets which will be 42 inches high with a furrdown of 12 inches since the ceiling is 9 ft high

Maybe you can distinguish the furrdown in this picture which also shows the arched hallway ceiling that I just love.

This lady was from the cabinet installer used by Home Depot.  She was useful since she knew all the standard heights of cabinets and could give me advice on what cabinets were available.  She was measuring so that the layout could be put on their system to figure out what cabinets would fit.  I went later to Home Depot and worked with Vivian to modify the cabinets.  One key benefit was we were able to move the range now before the LP lines and electricity were in to allow for a 24 inch landing on the right side of the range.  It would have been almost impossible to move them after drywall.

Can you guess what Home Depot quoted me for just the cabinets in the Kitchen and the Center Pod?  $15,000.  And that was after she told me about a special that reduced the price by $2,500.  So, I looked into my stash of contacts and home show brochures and remembered I liked a manufacturer that sold all-wood cabinets via Internet.  You have to assemble them --kind of like IKEA --but so much cheaper....$6,000.  European hinges that are adjustable as well and in the finish I wanted.

Anybody want to assemble some cabinets?
